Two police officers who protected the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, are seeking to continue their lawsuit against the Architect of the Capitol over a plaque commemorating their actions. The plaque was installed in an area blocked to the public and violates the law's intention to honor law enforcement officers. The former Capitol Police officer and Metropolitan Police Officer Daniel Hodges are arguing that the decision to hide the plaque from the public violates the spirit of the law. The law requires the plaque to be permanently displayed on the building's exterior. The Senate unanimously voted on the plaque's display in January.
