JJ Peterka, a former Buffalo Sabres player, has evolved significantly since his trade to the Utah Mammoth team. Despite a love-hate relationship with Buffalo fans, Peterka has become a much more complete player since his time in the East. His defensive metrics are not as complete as offensive ones, and there are no statistics that can measure the magnitude of a player's defensive game. Despite this, he has allowed just 43 goals against through 77 games for the Mammoth so far, his on-ice goals-against at even strength is better than all but one player currently nominated for my Selke ballot. Peterka credits his transformation to a combination of awareness, experience, and structure.
