The Tennessee state Legislature has passed a bill that would expand the right to use deadly force to include protection of property, easing fears held by gun owners. The legislation would allow citizens to use lethal force to prevent arson, burglary, animal cruelty, and robbery in certain situations. Supporters argued that law-abiding citizens should be allowed to protect their property. The use of deadly force in self-defense is only permitted in situations where a person has "reasonable fear" of being the victim of a violent crime. The United States Concealed Carry Association will advise their members about the legislation's implications. Critics argued that the bill was too restrictive and that people shouldn't die over property.
