During the surge, Frey took on the role of spokesman for the city, appearing on national podcasts and "The Daily Show". The city and Meet Minneapolis, the city’s convention and visitors bureau, have also released a video in which Frey runs through the city and discusses his love for Minneapolis. The only cost of the video was staff time, with a city communications team assisting with editing and B-roll.
