Clay County Commission denies zoning changes for Baker elevator cannabis business

The Clay County Commission unanimously denied changes to allow for a cannabis business in the Baker, Minnesota, grain elevator. The changes would have reduced the minimum commercial lot size and the setback for cannabis businesses from residential buildings in the county's agricultural service center zoning districts. Elevator owner Scott Dahms had asked for these changes to convert the building into a cannabis dispensary. The decision was in line with a recommendation from the Clay County Planning Commission. Dahms plans to appeal the commission's decision in court. Last year, the county approved cannabis businesses as a conditional use in agricultural service centers.
