Ambulance Fund Deficit Looms As Somers Approves Budget

The town of Somers has approved a budget that includes a $343,910 net increase to the town side of the budget, a 3.7 percent increase, and a 2.36 mill rate increase. The budget was discussed at a special meeting at Town Hall, where a significant $276,000 deficit is projected for the ambulance fund. Selectmen suggested shifting certain personnel costs from the ambulance to the general fund and exploring additional revenue from neighboring towns dependent on Somers for EMS coverage. The board also proposed a modest increase for library programming, citing expanded children's and adult offerings and continued support from the Friends of the Library and the taxis.
