Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has criticised Democratic lawmakers, led by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), for not ending the partial government shutdown over funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Duffy highlighted a letter by Airlines for America, a coalition of major airline operators, urging Congress to end the shutdown and for employees to be paid. The letter warned that travel related to Spring Break and the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 could be impacted due to the shutdown. Major airports across the U.S. have urged people to donate food, gas, and grocery gift cards to TSA employees amid the shutdown, as well as long lines at airports.
