Air India is introducing a new cabin crew fitness policy, with those who fail the mandatory body mass index (BMI) checks from May 1 and risk going without pay. Those who report a BMI under 18 are considered underweight and will have to undergo medical clearance. Overweight stewards with a BMI between 25 and 29.9 will also need to undergo an exam before being cleared to fly. However, obese cabin crew members with an excess of 30 or more will be immediately grounded. The new policy will apply to those training to become cabin crew.
