In the Canadian province of Alberta, the Centurion Project, a "canary trap" used to identify potential leakers or double agents, has been used in a recent incident involving the electoral list, a database that contains information such as names, addresses, and voting districts for millions of citizens. Despite restrictions on how political parties can access the electoral database, TheCenturion Project used the list to power an online database of voters. Elections Alberta, which maintains the list, found out through a canary trap that identifies the person responsible for the leak. The trap was successful as both parties publicly pledged to respect the law and the government took down the Centennial site.
