The US government has announced its latest strategy to block the development of offshore wind, paying companies to abandon lease sites they had paid for under the previous administration. The Department of the Interior will return about $1 billion to France's TotalEnergies, who has pledged to invest this money in US-based fossil fuel projects and will not participate in any further offshore wind development. The announcement comes in response to repeated failures to block offshore wind projects.
