Jerry Murrell, CEO of Five Guys, has given $1.5 million in bonuses to his staff after an in-store promotion went awry during which several stores ran out of food and had to close early. The bonuses were reportedly intended to protect Murrell from potential shootings, similar to that of murdered UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson who was fatally shot in the back in 2000. The company had hosted a successful buy-one-get-One-free special to celebrate the chain's 40th anniversary but failed to meet their own standards. To compensate, Murrell sent a $1,000 check to each store, totalling $1.,000, to make up for the debacle.
