PFAS law: Don't let a well-intentioned law stall used car market

The state's new PFAS law, designed to eliminate "forever chemicals" from the supply chain, could potentially stall the used car market. Used vehicles account for between 70-75% of all vehicle transactions in Minnesota and are the primary way Minnesotans access transportation. The law requires manufacturers to track and report data on every component sold in the state, including parts made years or even decades ago. However, the state's reporting system is inadequate to handle this complexity. If companies fail to comply, the flow of repair parts into Minnesota could halt. This could create parts shortages, increase costs, and put vehicles out of reach for those seeking a cleaner environment.
