A new law taking effect in July may lead to Arkansans paying more for their tires, according to tire officials. The issue lies primarily with tire prices, which have been exacerbated by non-compliance from the non-compliant Jefferson County Tire and Waste Facility shutting down. The previous used tire recycling fund required a $3 rim removal fee per tire, but this fee has not been sufficient to cover the cost of the program statewide. Craig Douglass, Executive Director of Regional Recycling for District 2, stated that this new legislation could force tire shops with large numbers of tires to offload their collections without assistance from their districts.
