Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced that a parliamentary election will take place in August, reducing the number of chambers in the current parliament from two to one. The new parliament will be named the Kurultai, which means "gathering" in Kazakhstan and is a nod to the country's steppe traditions.
