Louisiana state lawmaker, C. Denise Marcelle, plans to hold a hearing on crime districts across the city of Baton Rouge following an investigation by the WAFB I-TEAM that revealed thousands of crimes occurring in crime districts where residents are taxed twice for extra security. The WAFTEAM also found that despite people being taxed twice, thousands of incidents were still occurring across these 27 crime districts. Marcelle filed House Resolution 179 to examine the effectiveness of neighborhood crime prevention districts, which must be approved by the legislature and allow a special tax to be collected for things like extra patrols. The lawmakers studying these districts could meet as early as next week and the findings must be presented to the Legislature by March 2027.
