The Boston Police community is rallying behind Officer Nicholas O'Malley, who is charged with manslaughter in relation to an on-duty shooting of a carjacking suspect. A GoFundMe page for O’Malley’s family raised over $370,000 by early Sunday evening. The donations will help cover the family's "essential expenses" and concerns about the financial impact on their lives. The same day as the arraignment, the State's POST Commission suspended O‘Malley's law enforcement certification, citing "sufficient evidence" according to its statute. The Suffolk County District Attorney's office has stated that O”Malley had probable cause to arrest and charge him for shooting Stephenson King three times during an interaction with police after King allegedly committed a carijacking. However, a prosecutor from the DA's office stated that the incident “didn’t warrant deadly force” and that King was only trying to flee when he moved the car in reverse and forward repeatedly, backing into a police cruiser.
