Lurie Children’s Hospital is planning to build its new pediatric hospital on land in Downers Grove, near the intersection of I-88 and I-355. The new facility, announced in January, would be Lurie's first hospital with inpatient beds outside of its main location in Streeterville. It is currently in the process of purchasing the land and requires approval from the state Health Facilities and Services Review Board and zoning approval from Downers Gro. If approved, the new hospital could open in early 2029. The hospital would likely have 48 inpatient rooms and an emergency department with nearly 40 rooms. Funding for the hospital will primarily come from Lurie’�s operating revenue, bonds, and donations raised through philanthropy efforts.
