Traders at Ridley Road Market are being threatened with eviction

East London's Ridley Road Market, a multicultural hub with over 150 stalls selling mostly Afro-Caribbean, Asian and Turkish goods, has been threatened with eviction by the end of March due to a Met crackdown on antisocial behaviour in the market. The outdoor part of Ridley Road market is managed by Hackney Council, while the indoor area is privately owned by Larochette Real Estate Inc. This is not the first time the indoor market has faced threat, with plans to convert it into a block of offices and luxury flats were rejected in 2018 after widespread public outcry.
