The Donald Trump administration's efforts to court the crypto industry, including those of the Bitcoin and Ethereum developers, have caused concern among some crypto industry leaders. Despite promises from the Trump administration to stop prosecuting developers of crypto privacy software, the Department of Justice (DOD) continues to pursue these tools. A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit brought by a software developer, Michael Lewellen, who claimed he feared prosecution for creating his own privacy tool. The ruling has raised concerns among crypto advocates, including Peter Van Valkenburgh, executive director of the crypto advocacy group Coin Center, who argues that the DOJ's lack of consistency on the issue may have put its priorities in a worse spot.
