President Donald Trump has announced an emergency order to pay TSA agents due to long airport lines. At George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. H. Hobby Airport, a significant number of Transportation Security Administration officers are not reporting to work, leading to long security lines and frustrated travelers. The national callout rate was about 11%, but in Houston, rates were higher - roughly 32% at Hobby and nearly 40% at Bush. The Department of Homeland Security is assisting with logistics, crowd control, and ID verification using standard TSA procedures. Experts warn that the ongoing disruption could have significant consequences, including challenges in recruiting and retaining TSA officers.
