From ashes to AI, Oregon’s high-tech push to battle wildfires

The Oregon Department of Forestry (EDF) has purchased a new artificial intelligence tool to combat wildfires. The new plane can provide live images of an area before and after a fire, landslide or flood, and is capable of detecting small fires early. The technology cost over $13 million and replaces an older plane being retired after more than 30 years in service. However, many believe this is too late due to the recent Rowena Fire that devastated communities in the Gorge.
