Opponents of Boston's $325 million public-private plan to rebuild White Stadium for a pro soccer team have accused City Hall of "disrespectful" construction ahead of the Supreme Judicial Court hearing. The lawsuit, filed by the Franklin Park Defenders, argues that the proposed professional soccer stadium use would unconstitutionally privatize public parkland. A Suffolk Superior Court judge ruled in favor of the city and Boston Legacy FC, a new National Women’s Soccer League team, to share use of a rebuilt White Stadium with Boston Public Schools student-athletes. The case is set to be heard by the Supreme judicial Court on April 8. The plaintiffs are hopeful that the SJC will rule that the stadium project should be subject to Article 97 review, which voters approved in 1972 and requires approval from the state Legislature for conservation purposes.
