Israel has deployed its Iron Beam laser-based interceptor system in combat for the first time, successfully shooting down projectiles fired by Hezbollah. The system, which was officially unveiled in December, can knock out incoming missiles, mortar rounds and drones up to 6 miles away for as little as $2 per interception, compared to interceptor missiles typically costing anywhere from $100,000 to $1 million each.
