The goal of bringing small town healthcare into the modern era was discussed during a roundtable at the UT Tyler Health Science Center. Senator John Cornyn and Congressman Nathaniel Moran met with healthcare workers, educators, and community leaders from East Texas to discuss the $50 billion push to advance health care in rural Texas communities. The Rural Health Transformation Program is part of the "one big beautiful bill" aimed at modernizing rural hospitals, clinics, and providers in Texas. Since 2015, 14 hospitals in Texas have closed, with 14 counties in East Texas having only one hospital and six having none. The funding will be divided across different initiatives and organizations can apply for support.
