The Oakland Roots soccer club has agreed to pay a six-figure sum upfront for every remaining game at Oakland Coliseum under a new agreement with the Coliseum's board of directors. If the club fails to pay, they will lose access to their current home pitch. This comes after the team reportedly owes the Coliseum $1.4 million in back rent due to declining attendance and is operating at a loss. The club's next home game is scheduled for August 15 against Monterey Bay FC. The team is currently searching for a new home after the 2026 season, making them the third team in less than a decade to abandon Oakland Coliseum for greener pastures.
