The clock is running out on efforts to save Minneapolis' Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC), the state's largest Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma center, could begin closing in June. In response, clergy, community and health care workers have increased their demands for sustainable funding measures for the hospital. A 24-hour vigil outside HCMC was held to pray for Minnesota's health care system and highlight the importance of the trauma center to the state and region. The Senate passed a bill this week that would provide $150 million in one-time funding to HCMC as part of a hospital stabilization program, but it has yet to receive traction in the House. Two tax bills are moving through the Legislature aimed at providing a more sustainable source of funds for HCMC.
