Tornado in northwest Indiana causes two deaths and widespread damage

A large tornado, rain and hail hit Lake Village, Indiana overnight March 10, causing two fatalities and several injuries. The storm also produced exceptionally large hail and spawned multiple tornadoes across Indiana and Illinois. The tornado was spotted in Lake Village as "several intense supercell thunderstorms" moved across northwest Indiana and northern Illinois. Firefighters worked until 4 a.m. local time searching the damaged areas and found several "very injured people" along with the two dead. The same storm also dropped "exceptionally large hail," including a hailstone with a diameter of 6 inches in Kankakee, Illinois, which may be a new state record. Nearly 30,000 customers were without power due to the severe damage.
