Liberal commentators were outraged after President Donald Trump's speech praised America's Anglo-Saxon heritage during King Charles III's visit. During his speech, Trump argued that America was a unique nation founded by English settlers and the Founding Fathers. He also mentioned that American patriots’ blood was filled with “Anglo-Saxonian courage” and that their hearts beat with an English faith. Critics, including Jonathan Chait and Sunny Hostin, argued that his speech “walks up to the edge of [W]hite nationalism” as America is defined more than its founding values but its Anglo- Saxon cultural and genetic heritage. The White House defended the speech by stating that "These Trump-deranged Democrats need to touch grass."
