The number of measles cases in the US has increased by 81 to 1,362 confirmed infections, according to a recent update from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The country currently has 14 new outbreaks this year, with 94% of all confirmed cases linked to these outbreaks. President Donald Trump's Surgeon General nominee, Dr. Casey Means, has urged people to take the measles vaccine. This comes after Dr. Mehmet Oz encouraged people to get the vaccine in February. In 2025, measles cases hit a 34-year high, indicating the virus is still spreading this year. There are currently 30 states reporting measles cases for 2026. The outbreak in South Carolina began in fall, with 664 reported in 2026, making it the state's largest outbreak to date.
