Boston Police Officer Nicholas O'Malley has been charged with manslaughter in relation to an on-duty shooting of a carjacking suspect, Stephenson King, after King allegedly assaulted a woman and stole her car. The charge has now been brought to a grand jury, which could result in a Superior Court indictment. Massachusetts law dictates that O'Malmoy's suspension go without pay if he is indicted. The only officers not subject to this law are state troopers who can still take pay after being indicted. Since the arrest, community members have rallied around O’Malley and his family, with a GoFundMe raising over half a million dollars.
