San Francisco International Airport (SFO) has a free observation deck that is accessible without a boarding pass. The SkyTerrace, one of two SFO observation decks, offers plane-spotting views before the long lines and TSA checks. The lounge is filled with historical aviation moments and ephemera curated by the airport's in-house museum team. The hours are short but can be extended, and a second observation deck is set to open in 2020.
