Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne, who has been seen as a leader in the county's long-stalled jail project, has been accused by the county prosecutor, Michael O'Malley, of illegally approving the $1B jail project. He argues that an Ohio law requires two separate groups of officials to approve project plans exceeding $75,000, and that neither group was ever formally assembled or approved current jail plans. O’Malley called for the county to cease and desist from authorizing or spending any public funds on the proposed new jail unless both groups affirmatively voted on the plans and specifications. The county is currently preparing to borrow nearly $1 billion to finish the project. The dispute has not been resolved and could result in additional legal action if it doesn't follow a resolution to the state of the court’s facilities.
