The United States has moved to ease sanctions on Iranian oil in an effort to reduce energy prices. This move could be seen as a boost for Tehran as the US scrambles to contain the economic shockwaves of its military campaign. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the easing of sanctions would be "narrowly tailored" and only temporary, allowing the sale of Iranian oil currently stranded at sea. Since the start of the war, retail gas prices have risen by 93 cents per gallon and U.S. crude oil has risen more than 70% since the beginning of the year. Experts have criticized the decision, suggesting a lack of strategic planning and stating that the oil price is becoming more important than eliminating the Iranian regime.
