Japanese beer brand Sapporo is selling its San Diego-based brand, Stone Brewing, to Firestone Walker Brewing Company and Duvel Moortgat USA for an undisclosed amount. The sale will see the production of Stone beers in Richmond, which received a significant incentive package a decade ago. However, the company will temporarily close its local taproom and lay off "less than 10" local employees. Sapporo plans to retain the Richmond plant as its primary U.S. production hub for Sapporo beers. The deal is expected to close at the end of May.
