Pontiac, Michigan, is implementing new pedestrian safety projects across the city following several fatal crashes, including two pedestrian deaths this year and six in the previous year. The most recent incident occurred on Sunday when a 60-year-old man died after being hit by two vehicles in a hit-and-run. The city's mayor, Mike McGuinness, stated that the projects are aimed at preventing more tragedies. One of the key corridors for the changes is Auburn Avenue, which will be reconfigured to accommodate one lane in each direction and a center turning lane, and lower speed limits and add more crosswalks that light up when you press the button to improve safety for pedestrians and motorists.
