A mother owl was forced to abandon her nest after becoming entangled in an electric fence and repeatedly shocked by it. The Raven Ridge Wildlife Center in Washington Boro, Penn., saved a great horned owl that had become entangled in the fence surrounding a chicken coop. Warden Bietch drove the owl from the rescue site to the center, where experts assessed her and found a "brood patch" on her lower abdomen indicating she was caring for a nest of eggs or small chicks. The mother is now raising her new owlet and will act as an "older sibling" for the younger owlet. The center plans to release both adult female and the baby owl together.
