Together for health, standing with science: Reaching children in remote areas of Zamboanga del Norte with life-saving vaccines
Published on April 8, 2026.
The World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other partners have led a campaign to reach children in remote areas of Zamboanga del Norte, the southern Philippines with life-saving vaccines. The Philippines saw over 5,000 measles cases in 2025. The local government and WHO, supported by WHO, had to rethink how to reach every child with these vaccines through temporary fixed sites embedded in communities. The temporary sites were established to ensure the maximum number of children were protected. The shift away from door-to-door visits was operational and personal, and required community leaders to become visible and trusted. The theme of World Health Day 2026 is "Together for Health". WHO urges communities, governments, and partners to advance science-led innovations that improve health outcomes.
