The interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS, the third known object to visit our solar system from interstellar space, was confirmed in 2025 as the third object ever discovered outside Earth's solar system. Despite conspiracy theories, scientists have found that 3I/.ATLas shows all the signs of being a comet from outside the solar system, which is expected to exit our solar systems never to return. The European Space Agency's Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (Juice) observed the comet between Nov. 2 and Nov. 25 when it was in a "very active state" following its closest approach to the sun. The object was ejected billions of years ago into interstellar space before entering into our system, suggesting it did not originate within our solar solar system and its hyperbolic orbit suggests it did. The ESA's new photo of the comet was taken by Juice's JANUS camera, which was previously released by the Juice orbiter.
