The Las Vegas heat wave has shown the futility of fighting against global warming, writes Victor Jeocks. The previous record for the earliest 100-degree day of the year was May 1, 1947. Despite efforts by environmental groups to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the United States has failed. Domestic policies have included renewable portfolio standards, stricter emissions limits on cars, stricter carbon emissions rules on coal power plants, and aggressive California policies on oil refineries. Despite these efforts, China's annual carbon emissions are five times higher than they were in 1990. The United States spent hundreds of billions of dollars fighting Global Warming, but has succeeded in reducing carbon emissions.
