A study by Fudan University in China has found that coffee consumption could potentially reduce the risk of developing anxiety and depression, according to researchers. The study involved records of 461,586 individuals, who were followed for a median of 13.4 years. The researchers found that those who drank two to three cups of coffee a day were the least likely to develop mental health problems, compared to people who didn't drink coffee at all or who drank more than three cups. The relationship between coffee consumption and mental health remained consistent across coffee types and the benefits of coffee consumption were higher for men compared to women. However, the study did not directly measure any brain effects, but provided useful new clues about the effects of coffee on the brain.
