Video released by Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, appears to show a police dog sniffing accused shooter, Cole Tomas Allen, moments before shots were fired at the White House Correspondents' dinner on April 25. The video shows Allen walking down a hallway at the Washington Hilton Hotel where the dinner was held and approaching a security checkpoint with side-by-side magnetometers. A vested and leashed K-9 unit crosses the hallway to follow Allen, its handler trailing behind. The dog follows Allen into the room, but the officer appears to direct the dog away from Allen, pulling its leash. The Secret Service did not immediately respond to questions about whether the dog handler was part of the Secret Service’s security team, or whether proper protocols were followed.
