Texas GOP Senate runoff intensifies over Save America Act

The deadline for Republican candidates to remove their names from the primary runoff ballot in Texas has passed without any movement from Sen. John Cornyn or Attorney General Ken Paxton. This comes after President Donald Trump pledged to endorse either Cornyn, Paxton, and called on them to drop out. Nearly two weeks have elapsed without an endorsement from Trump, who has instead urged the party to unite against the Democratic nominee. Paxton's offer to drop his name out of the runoff ballot has also fueled the debate around the SAVE America Act, which Cornyn supports. The bill would require proof of citizenship when voting and would also ban mail-in voting, and end gender-affirming procedures for minors. Despite this, there is little chance of passage for the bill through the Senate due to the filibuster, given the opposition of 47 Democrats.
