The NBA is exploring expansion to both Las Vegas and Seattle, a process that the league aims to complete this year. The outcome of this expansion could result in both cities receiving teams, with either Las Vegas or Seattle being only one of the markets receiving a franchise. The process involves a number of aspects such as ownership, where the franchise would play, financial details, and what the expansion fee will be. T-Mobile Arena is the only facility that could host an NBA team in Las Vegas as it stands, but Silver said it is too early in the process to determine if a Las Vegas expansion team could play in a temporary basis while a new arena is built. If approved, 23 of the 30 NBA governors will need to vote on expanding following the exploration process.
