The Ohio legislature has introduced the Ohio Medical Aid in Dying Act, a process to allow terminally ill, mentally competent adults to hasten their death by taking a lethal dose of medication prescribed by a physician. Currently, only 13 states and the District of Columbia allow this practice, but two allow non-residents to participate. The bill is introduced by State Rep. Eric Synenberg, a Beachwood Democrat. It would allow termininally ill adults with six months or less to live to self-administer a physician-prescribed lethal dose. The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled that companies that bill apartment renters for electricity must follow the same rules as traditional utilities. An Ohio bill that would require law enforcement to immediately alert when a child with autism or another developmental disability goes missing is nearing a final Senate vote is inspired by the 2024 drowning death of a nonverbal autistic boy. A grassroots campaign to eliminate Ohio property taxes has gathered roughly 305,000 signatures towards a November ballot measure, but still faces significant hurdles. The acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche announced that state-licensed medical marijuana will be reclassified from Schedule I to Schedule III of the Controlled Substances Act, potentially providing significant tax relief to cannabis businesses.
