Commentary: War is not only destroyed buildings

Sarah Al Asmar, a Fulbright scholar pursuing a master's degree in Public Policy at UCF, argues that war does not only destroy buildings but also reshapes the functioning of entire societies. One of the main effects of war are the disruption of family life, where families stop living in the same place and their lives become scattered across multiple continents. This shift in society's focus on short-term stability shifts from economic stability to creative and innovative solutions. The Lebanese diaspora, which includes millions of people living and working outside the country, carries their culture, language and talent abroad, contributing to other economies and societies. Despite this, Lebanon's ability to rebuild remains remarkable, with people returning to rebuild homes, businesses, and communities.
