US customs agency says tariff refund system progressing, but payments may take up to 45 days

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is working towards setting up a streamlined process for refunding $166 billion in tariff collections deemed illegal by the Supreme Court. However, it may take up to 45 days to process refund applications. The new system will initially accept claims in phases, with priority given to those whose liquidation status has been suspended or extended. The Supreme Court has not provided guidance on refunding the payments since February 2025.
