HHS ends $11M contract with Catholic Charities to care for migrant children

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has decided not to renew an $11 million contract with Catholic Charities, a sub-agency of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). This decision comes after several years of continuous federal support for the charity. The decision was made on Feb. 16 and comes amid President Trump's tensions with the Catholic Church and criticism of Pope Leo XIV over his stance on the Iran war. The agency is closing and consolidating unused facilities as part of its efforts to prevent illegal entry and trafficking of unaccompanied alien children.
