The week of April 13 saw at least 24 tornadoes in Wisconsin, more than the state typically sees in a year, according to the State Climatology Office. The National Weather Service confirmed that the state experienced a total of at least 23 tornadoes that occurred. The strongest tornado to hit Wisconsin was an EF3, which lasted for 20 minutes and was 80 yards wide at its peak. The storms also caused widespread damage and flooding in the Milwaukee area, leading to the city's rainiest April on record. The La Crosse NWS station issued 26 tornado warnings on April 17 alone, the highest number since the office was built in 1995. Tens of thousands of Wisconsin utility customers were left without power due to severe thunderstorms. The water level in the Fox River in Waukesha rose by four feet from April 13 to 18.
