While fish and chips has its origins in England, it is equally popular in Ireland as it is in the UK. In Ireland, locals prefer to go to a takeaway eatery, a chipper (or chippy) rather than a pub. However, at an Irish-style pub, they will likely serve frozen fish, possibly even pre-battered, instead of freshly cut chunky chips.
