Bill Maher to Receive Mark Twain Prize for Humor After White House Had Called It “Fake News”

The Kennedy Center has confirmed that it will present the 27th Mark Twain Prize for American Humor to comedian Bill Maher. This announcement comes after the White House called it "fake news" when a report suggesting Maher would receive the award was criticized by members of the administration. The ceremony will take place on June 28 at the Kennedy Center and will be broadcast on Netflix. The award is a major revenue driver for The Kennedy Center due to its corporate sponsorship and streaming deal with Netflix. Maher has hosted HBO’s Real Time for over 20 years and has received 42 Emmy nominations.
